The Housing Market

has taken a turn for the worst.

New York(CNN Money News)- Foreclosure filings nave nearly doubled from a year ago and more people could lose their homes in 2008. Close to 225,000 foreclosure filings were reported nationwide, up 94 percent from October 2006. In the month, 53,609 U.S. homeowners were forced out of homes repossessed by banks, up from 20,768 a year ago. This has left a total of 309,557 homes that were repossessed by banks leading into forced evictions. It is expected that over 2,000,000 have entered the foreclosure process- that includes bank repossessions, default notices, and auction sale notices. In 2008, this problem would hit even harder once adjustable-rate mortgages begin to reset in greater numbers throughout the year.
